Reduction printing

This is an example of a reduction print. My reduction prints are cut from single blocks of lino. I draw my image on the block and, before I print, I cut away everything I want to remain white. I then print in the palest colour and cut away everything I want to remain in that colour before inking again. I work from the palest colour through to the darkest and the image emerges in increasing detail with each layer of colour.

The registration needs to be accurate so that fine lines and details in the palest colours will still be showing through all the other layers of ink by the end of the process.
